News Letter - Elderly Must Prove Savings Legitimate

News Letter - Elderly Must Prove Savings Legitimate

This has lead me to think about the difficulties in trying to open a bloody bank account.

I recently tried to open one in the Bank of Ireland in Cookstown, as I had decided that the Ulster Bank charges were getting ridiculous. I arrived with my Passport and a letter from my social security agency proving my address.

After a few suspicious glances by her between me and the potato in the photograph the bank minion wandered off to look me up somewhere.

I already am signatory for a club account in that very branch.

The minion called a more senior minion over, and they both started giving me funny looks.

Ok I thought they are being thorough, and its an old photo.
Minion one returns.

you're not on the electoral register' she accuses.

'Um, no. I requested that I not be included' I concede.

'You're not on the register' I am confronted with again.

'No I'm not', I humbly apologise

"well you cant open an account"

I leave feeling humiliated, I don't exist, IM NOT ON THE REGISTER.

So what do you do now if you are on benefits and have never owned a passport or been on the electoral register? You cannot get a Giro anymore.

Also, recently I managed to take £75 out of my Ulster Bank account armed only with an out of Date student card.

Is it me or is this inconsistant.

Roll on Retina scans, although It probably will only work for the blue eyed. Not the brown eyed money launderers
