It seems the President of Ireland isn't the only person putting her foot in her mouth this week...

After it was announced that UUP member Steven King (cool name) married his partner in Canada, the DUP's Ian Paisley Jnr. claimed that gay and lesbian folk shouldn't really be allowed to live normal lives like everyone else. They shouldn't even be allowed to work. He also claimed that the vast majority of people in Northern Ireland feel the same.

We don't.

Paisley Jnr's opinions regarding gay people (they're 'ignorant', 'obnoxious' and even *gasp* 'perverse', yada, yada, yada) are disgusting, outdated and dangerous. Like much of his party's opinions on, well, just about everything, really. These opinions are every bit as unreasonable as those of the most hardcore, fundamentalist Christian movements in the US. It is not a god of love, compassion and forgiveness they subscribe to, but a rather scary god of wrath and anger; they frighten people to repent. 

I think that the vast majority of people here only want to get on with their lives and not be subjected to such bigoted and ignorant rhetoric. Live and let live.
